Our newest Staycity in London is located in the district of Dalston, within the London borough of Hackney. Dalston is becoming an increasingly interesting and sought after part of London to be in. Dotted with independent cafés, unique eateries, intimate event spaces, creative industries and vibrant nightlife, it’s the place to be – whether it’s for a short stint or long getaway. We have curated a detailed check-off list for a discovery day-trip of the area, where you can live like a local and feast on all the things this up-and-coming destination has to offer.
Things to see:
Kingsland Basin
Once you’ve obtained your caffeine fix from one of our recommendations below, it’s worth checking out Kingsland Basin, which is only a twenty-minute walk from our doors. Located on Regent’s Canal, it was historically a canal basin used for industrial transport. Nowadays, it’s a residential and leisure spot with moored houseboats, community projects and modern developments. Simply stroll along the canal to get your steps in, or explore the local markets and cultural venues.

In a big and vibrant city like London, open spaces and green street scapes are hard to come by, but are embraced with open arms. We recommend popping into the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden, where urban life meets serenity. Born out of a previously existing railway line, residents and tourists alike can stop by and smell the roses. It’s also perfect for children, as they can explore the gardens while the parents take a well-deserved rest in an oasis in the middle of London.

Gillett Square

Dubbed as ‘London’s leading public cultural space’, Gillett Square is a vibrant public space and a dynamic cultural hub. Luckily for you, it is a mere two minute-walk from Staycity! Opened in 2006, it serves as a community-driven venue for arts, music, and social events. The square hosts a variety of activities, including live performances, markets, and festivals, fostering a creative and inclusive environment. Included in this area is Dalston Culture House and the legendary Vortex Jazz Club, which mixes the attraction of stars, while nurturing local talent.
The Culture House is not only an urban architectural structure in the neighbourhood, it is an important one. What it lacks in pretension, it gains in functionality, usefulness and timelessness. From it’s opening until now, its relevance has remained the same. Its design was intentional and carefully crafted, as to fit the aesthetics of a wide range of business.

Places to eat/drink:
Brunswick East

Less than a five-minute walk from our property is Brunswick East, home to a speciality coffee shop, urban farm and brunch spot. This is a lovely spot to take a pause from the hustle and bustle of the day and are looking for some time of inactivity before you set off again.

Arguably one of East London’s best bakeries, The Dusty Knuckle is the perfect place for a pastry – and what’s better than rewarding yourself with a sweet treat? Go on, you’ve clocked up the mileage via your Dalston discoveries! Your heart and stomach will be content with these crowd pleasers.

At the physical Dusty Knuckle location, Dalston Pizza nights are back! Join them in the Dalston Yard from 5.30pm –10pm, every Thursday to Saturday. This is a seasonal event and running until the end of the warmer months, so make sure to pop down and keep the summer sadness at bay! With a fresh pizza and starters menu, beers from 40FT, Provisions wines and plenty of outdoor seating to bask in the summer sunshine, it’s guaranteed good vibes and a no-brainer for a good night's feed.
*Our top tip: If coming with kids, you can avail of a free margherita pizza (one per parent) from 5:30pm-6:30pm!
