Staycity Group acquires prestigious Southwark site for Wilde

DUBLIN, 3rd OCTOBER 2025: Leading aparthotel operator Staycity Group, working with Citygrove, has exchanged contracts to acquire a prime site on Blackfriars Road, London, for the development of a Wilde Aparthotel, the group’s boutique lifestyle brand.

The site is a one-minute walk from Southwark Underground station and close to London Waterloo, adjacent to the South Bank and landmarks including the Tate Modern, National Theatre, Borough Market, the London Eye and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

Contracts were exchanged for an undisclosed sum with Swiss Life Asset Management, with JLL advising the seller.

Citygrove will oversee the ground-up project as development partner, continuing its successful partnership with Staycity Group, alongside EPR Architects. Construction is scheduled to start in June 2027, with completion anticipated in March 2030, subject to planning consent.

The proposed tower will rise to approximately 25 floors and, consistent with other Wilde properties will feature bespoke interiors and flexible spaces for guests to relax, work, dine and socialise. A generous ground-floor and mezzanine area will accommodate a lounge, café bar, shop and co-working area, while studio and one-bed self-catering apartments will have fully equipped kitchens with premium appliances.

This announcement follows the recent acquisition of a site at Wyvil Court, Vauxhall. Both the Southwark and Vauxhall projects will significantly boost Wilde’s coverage in the capital, with properties already successfully operating in Aldgate, Covent Garden, Liverpool Street and Paddington and a further property under development in London WC1.

“This is another milestone acquisition for our central London pipeline, bringing in-house development to five London sites with a combined GDV of over £800m as we focus on larger, prime projects. It also marks a strategic entry into Southwark, one of London’s fastest-developing central boroughs,” said Andrew Fowler, Chief Development Officer, Staycity Group.

With expansion very much at the forefront, Staycity Group is currently signing some 2,000 new keys a year across Europe for both its Staycity Aparthotels and Wilde brands. The privately held company now operates 6,500 aparthotel rooms with a contracted pipeline in excess of 4,500 additional rooms. [ENDS]
