behind the scenes at o'neills

Last updated Jun 10, 2024

We were lucky enough to get behind the scenes at the O’Neill’s sportswear factory in Strabane, Co. Tyrone, where their skilled, dedicated team hand-craft the iconic Dublin GAA jerseys.

O’Neill’s is the largest and leading sportswear manufacturer in Ireland. Established in 1918, the company remains Irish-owned and operated, specialising in the design, manufacture, personalisation, and supply of sportswear globally. From a staff of 3 in 1918, O’Neill’s now employs more than 900 people across Ireland, the UK, France, Australia and beyond.

We spoke to O’Neill’s Operations Manager Mary Flanagan about the design process behind the iconic Dublin GAA jersey. The process begins with a design team based in Dublin before reaching the factory in Strabane. This year saw the addition of a knitted trim as well as silicone stripes and a new silicone embroidered badge to the jersey, which add a contemporary touch to the classic design.

The quality of the jersey is a huge focus. The O’Neill’s team are proud to see the players wear the products they have created, and love to see their jerseys stand up to the game!

It was a pleasure to be shown around and to meet the O’Neill’s team, and a joy to see the craftsmanship that goes into each jersey. We’re immensely proud to have our name on these incredible jerseys. Huge thanks to O’Neill’s for having us!
