At the time of its opening in June 1877, York Station was one of the largest stations in the world with an impressive (for the period) 13 platforms. It was heavily bombed in the second World War and had to be completely refurbished in 1947. Due to its complex heritage, York Station was named as a Grade II listed buildings in 1963.
