STAY IN Hotels near Apollo Victoria Theatre
When the Apollo Victoria first opened its doors in 1930, it was as a cinema. Decorated in a nautical Art Deco style with scallop shells and sculpted fountains, it’s a theme that remains to this day. It also contains a traditional organ that used to play before the showings of films before it became the theatre it is today. It closed during World War II and finally reopened again in 1981 in full glory, with Shirley Bassey as an opening night headline act. Since then, many musicals have graced the stage, kicking off with The Sound of Music in 1981, starring Petula Clark. Today, the production of much-loved musical, Wicked, has been on the stage since 2006 and has no signs of slowing down any time soon.
