Ahead of the opening of its first property in Italy, in Venice, Mestre, Staycity Group has announced the appointment of commercial real estate advisory, brokerage and development specialist Coldwell Banker Commercial (CBC) to act as exclusive developer for Staycity in the Italian territory.
CBC will spearhead Staycity’s expansion into Italy by finding and assessing suitable sites, overseeing design and rebuild and handling lease contracts. Potential cities earmarked for exploration include Milan, Rome and Florence.
The Staycity project will be handled by Veronica Sagliaschi, part of CBC’s hospitality team. Said Sagliaschi: “We look forward to working with the Staycity team and to promoting and expanding the company’s estate into Italy. Staycity has fantastic brand credentials and we believe the product will be a huge success in Italy.”
“We are delighted to announce this partnership with CBC,” commented Staycity’s group development director Barry Hickey. “Veronica and the team have demonstrated a strong understanding of our business and the opportunity that exists for Staycity in Italy. Their considerable market knowledge and expertise will assist Staycity greatly in making a strong assault into Italy and raise our profile within the country’s hospitality industry.”
Staycity is a privately held company based in Dublin, Ireland, established in 2004 by CEO Tom Walsh and his brother Ger. The company has become Europe’s leading independent aparthotel operator, offering quality short-term and long-term aparthotel lettings across 11 central city locations. Staycity currently operates some 3,000 apartments and has an extensive pipeline of forthcoming openings.
Staycity’s properties, which operate under the Staycity Aparthotels and Wilde Aparthotels by Staycity brands, appeal to both business and leisure travellers who are looking for a more user-friendly, cost-effective alternative to hotels. The studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments offer guests 24-hour reception, kitchens or kitchenettes, a dining area and sitting area as well as complimentary WiFi, guest laundry facilities and housekeeping. Most have car parking and many offer a fitness room, guest lounge and Staycafé selling breakfast, all-day snacks and drinks.
With the aim of operating 15,000 apartments by the end of 2023, Staycity is currently undergoing one of its most active expansion periods. New openings this year include: Staycity Aparthotels Paris, Marne-la-Vallée; it’s first property in Germany, at Berlin’s Checkpoint Charlie; and a second site in Edinburgh, Scotland. Early next year Staycity will open a second property in Manchester, UK.
This August Staycity makes its debut in Italy with the opening of Venice, Mestre, with 175 studio and one-bed apartments. The property will have a Staycafé, fitness room as well as guest parking and is a 12-minute train journey into the city of Venice.
