chinese new year manchesterIf you are on the market for a fabulous celebration to go to in Manchester, then look no further. This Sunday, 29th of January marks the 2012 Chinese New Year and the start of the Year of the Dragon. Without a doubt this will be one event you definitely have to go to in the city.

The organizers of this years celebration promise this to be one of the largest events in Manchester. And, with so many great performances scheduled for the day, their promises might prove right.

You can prepare yourself for the celebration on Friday by visiting the Variety Show by the Chinese Art Troupe at the Manchester Central Exchange Auditorium (Manchester M2 3GX).

On the main day, the 29th head down to the Chinatown or Albert Square, where celebrations will begin at around 11am. Main shows are scheduled for between 12noon and 7pm. The massive fireworks show will begin at 6pm and, don’t forget to see the high pole dragon dance, promised to be the most spectacular in the whole UK!

Other organizations have also launched their own initiatives to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Manchester United launched a minisite devoted to the occasion. The site features new years messages from players, fans sharing their good luck messages with the players and more. Moreover, the club has been displaying red banners on the Old Traffords East Stand to wish their fans Happy New Year. Banners also feature a popular chant amongst Chinese fans, which can be translated as “C’mon You Reds!”.
